What is Liposomal iron?

Liposomal iron is essentially iron that is encapsulated in a liposome. Liposomal iron has better bioavailability, higher absorption, increased delivery to cells, and decreased GI side effects

Comparison of Traditional Iron to Liposomal Iron

Conventional oral iron therapy is limited in many patients because of dose dependent side effects, insufficient absorption, lack of compliance and limitation in various inflammatory conditions. Liposomal iron is a technologically designed, innovative form of iron which due to its differential delivery system ensures higher absorption and bioavailability, greater tolerability and least gastro-intestinal side effects unlike conventional oral iron preparations. Proved for iron deficient states in pregnancy and certain inflammatory conditions.

Conventional iron preparations are often associated with various GI side effects resulting in non-adherence to the therapy by substantial number of patients. Liposomal iron, a new generation oral iron preparation, technologically engineered through process of microencapsulation, helps to overcome the limitation associated with the conventional iron preparations. The technological advancement has translated the benefit into clinical outcomes as evidenced by multiple studies.

It protects the nutrient from harsh acids along the gastro-intestinal (GI) tract. These acids can often break down nutrients before they get to their destination, which means your body gets less of the Iron.

Iron deficiency anaemia

Iron deficiency anaemia is the most common nutritional deficiency disorder, contributing to 25 percent of all the anaemias in the world That means a lot of people are looking to up their iron intake.

Dietary changes alone are insufficient for the correction of iron deficiency anaemia. Hence, iron supplements are necessary.
